West african fish: sustainable tilapia farming
Growing aquaculture, supporting communities
West African Fish Ltd. was founded in 2008 as a joint venture between Royal Danish Fish Group A/S and Palm Acres Ltd. The goal was to establish a successful and sustainable aquaculture farm, producing tilapia of the highest quality.
Today, West African Fish supplies fresh tilapia to the domestic market, serving wholesalers, retailers, restaurants, and hotels. The farm is located by Lake Volta in Ghana’s eastern region, near the town of Asikuma. The company has influenced local employment significantly and continues to expand. Additionally, an estimated 400 families benefit indirectly through trade, resale and related activities.
Sustainable growth and community commitment
From small beginnings to sustainable success
Production has grown rapidly from the beginning. From an initial 28 tons of fish in 2008, the output has increased to several thousand tons annually, reflecting strong demand and efficient operations.
West African Fish also plays an active role in community development. As part of its CSR initiatives, the company has supported education in Asikuma, including the donation of a new primary school building with three classrooms. These efforts are part of a long-term strategy to create lasting positive impact in the region.
The company is also a proud member of the Ghana Business Code, demonstrating its commitment to responsible business practices.
